Sustainability and innovation since more than 200 years at the Georg Fischer AG

July 13, 2022
With its three divisions, Georg Fischer AG (GF) offers products and solutions for the safe transport of liquids and gases, lightweight cast components as well as high-precision manufacturing technologies. As a leading company in sustainability and innovation, GF has been providing customers with high-quality solutions for over 200 years. With 139 companies in 34 countries, GF remains true to its Schaffhausen roots and is investing in the location again. Schaffhausen is of central significance for GF as a production facility as well as for its customers.

Schaffhausen is of central significance for GF as a production facility, as well as research and holding site. In addition to the corporate headquarters, the headquarters of the two divisions GF Casting Solutions and GF Piping Systems are located here, as well as research and development centers. GF Piping Systems also operates a highly automated production plant with logistics in Schaffhausen. «GF currently employs around 1,000 people in Schaffhausen,» explains CEO Andreas Müller.

«The region is characterized by its proximity to an international airport, nearby research, and educational institutions such as the ETH Zurich, short political decision-making paths, but also an attractive landscape with a high quality of life.»

Nearby research and educational institutions

Since its founding in 1802, GF has remained loyal to Schaffhausen as a location. More than 200 years later, the Executive Committee is still convinced by the location: «The region is characterized by its proximity to an international airport, nearby research, and educational institutions such as the ETH Zurich, short political decision-making paths, but also an attractive landscape with a high quality of life,» says Andreas Müller. In addition, the cooperation with municipal and cantonal authorities as well as the economic promotion is exemplary, confirms Andreas Müller: «The decision-making processes are short. This means that solutions can usually be reached quickly and without complications.»

Continuous investments are a clear commitment to Schaffhausen as a business location

GF is constantly investing in its infrastructure and production facilities in Schaffhausen. In the last decade, total investments in the production area were in the double-digit millions. In 2019, GF invested an additional 20 million francs in the structural transformation of the GF Piping Systems headquarters and training center. Around 10,000 guests from all over the world visit the exhibition and training center in Schaffhausen every year to become familiar with GF products,» says Andreas Müller.

And GF is making further progress: the corporate headquarters and the GF Casting Solutions headquarters at Amsler-Laffon-Strasse 9 will be modernized based on the latest energy efficiency criteria between May 2022 and summer 2023. The building technology and security will also be on the latest standards. Modern, open working environments will be created that promote communication and teamwork and make GF even more attractive as an employer.

That is another indication that Schaffhausen will remain an essential know-how center for GF in the future. «As a Swiss company, we need to differentiate ourselves to secure competitive advantages. That is why we will continue to invest in our employees, attractive jobs as well as innovative and sustainable products on an ongoing basis,» says Andreas Müller.
