Developing solutions to the challenges of the future

New and New and innovative technologies are an increasingly important tool as our society and economy confront environmental challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and biodiversity loss. Solutions for clean water, water supply and fluid infrastructure, wastewater treatment, and water and resource management are all fundamental necessities - and intelligent, innovative approaches in these areas are crucial.

From MNEs to SMEs, from industrial giants to technology start-ups

Schaffhausen companies, both traditional industry giants and small businesses and startups, are innovating new answers to environmental challenges. Multinational Xylem develops and produces turbines and filtration systems, software and data transfer, and a number of other water-oriented technologies for industrial and utilities consumers. Georg Fischer, founded in Schaffhausen in 1802, produces piping systems, turbines, stormwater management solutions, industrial treatment, distribution, and a myriad of other applications. Small businesses like Hidrostal and Hydrowatt produce pumps and pump systems, while award-winning cleantech startup Methanology is developing a renewable methanol fuel.

Our water and environmental technology cluster is closely connected with Schaffhausen's advanced materials cluster, integrating innovative plastic, metal, and chemical products to improve stability and sustainability of water infrastructure.
