Schaffhausen's advanced materials ecosystem benefits from a unique constellation of research, education, mediation, and funding actors.


The Innovation- und Technologiezentrum Schaffhausen (ITS) is an independent nonprofit organization that supports Schaffhausen businesses with innovation and technology development. ITS provides networking between companies and research partners, educational events, and direct coaching and support. ITS is funded by member contributions from industry, by the Canton of Schaffhausen, and by the federal government.


The Innovationsnetzwerk Ostschweiz (INOS) supports small businesses in Eastern Switzerland with coaching, networking, and organizational development. INOS has a particular focus on plastics, with their "Kunststofftechnik trifft Nachhaltigkeit" (plastics meets sustainability) platform. INOS is supported by six cantons and a region in Eastern Switzerland, including Schaffhausen, and the federal government.


The Hochschulinstitut Schaffhausen (HSSH) provides degree programs and continuing education courses with an industrial focus.


Suisse TP is an accredited testing laboratory, providing an array of testing infrastructure and expertise for research, development and analysis of materials.

Plastic

Schaffhausen has one of the highest concentrations of companies in the plastics processing industry worldwide. The wide variety of material, processing, and sustainability expertise offers companies specializing in technically demanding high-end products a unique development and production environment.

Metal

Since its beginnings in the early 18th century, the Schaffhausen metal processing industry has been a competence cluster with global significance. In a compact area, material research, material development, and material processing are closely integrated within a dense network of research and testing institutions, development service providers, and globally oriented production companies.
