Schaffhausen is the European Champion with the Fastest Fiber Optic Network

July 18, 2024

With 2.5 gigabits per second, Schaffhausen's cable network operator sasag Kabelkommunikation AG sets new standards in comprehensive internet supply across Europe. Both businesses and private users benefit from this technological advancement.

Starting in July 2024, Schaffhausen telecommunications provider sasag will offer a comprehensive maximum speed of 2.5 Gbit/s for their internet connections. This makes sasag the first cable network operator in Europe to provide this speed throughout its entire service area. "Thanks to our constant investments in our network over the past years, we are able to supply every single connection with this performance," explains Daniel Kyburz, Managing Director of sasag.

The high internet speed is a decisive competitive advantage, especially in rural areas, as sasag can offer at least five times faster internet services over copper cables than all competitors. "Our customers' demand for higher bandwidth is continuously increasing. Our goal is to ensure that our network meets these expectations," emphasizes Tobias Münzer, Marketing Director of sasag.

To ensure Schaffhausen can provide the best connections, sasag is continuously expanding the fiber optic network. "The foundation of all scenarios is the expansion of fiber optic connections. The current buzzword is Smart Infrastructure, which is used for Smart City or Smart Grids," says Tobias Münzer. Sasag is laying the technical groundwork for Schaffhausen to play a key role in the use and implementation of such technologies. This comprehensive network upgrade is being implemented in Schaffhausen and, thanks to our makers, the area for makers remains ideally equipped for the challenges of the digital future.
