Support for innovative projects

Innovative projects by companies in the canton of Schaffhausen can be supported with subsidies in the form of individual company subsidies (EBF) or tax relief. The aim of this support is to strengthen the canton's economy.

Purpose of individual company subsidies

Prerequisites for funding include the economic significance of the project for the canton, the preservation and creation of jobs and the focus on supra-regional markets (Art. 5 of the Economic Promotion Act). The aim of the promotion is to strengthen the canton's economy and improve the environment for start-ups.

Step-by-step instructions

Criteria for support services

A number of criteria must be met in order to benefit from the funding:

  • Economic significance of the project for the Canton of Schaffhausen
  • Creation or preservation of jobs in the canton of Schaffhausen
  • Existence of a clear concept for the project
  • Complete or predominant orientation of the company's activities towards a supra-regional market
  • Compliance with the provisions of labor law

The Government Council of the Canton of Schaffhausen decides on the amount and duration of the subsidies. The subsidies are granted within the framework of an agreement in which the company undertakes to provide certain services. Please check wether your project meets the requirements for grand funding in acordance with Art. 5 Economic Promotion Legislation.

Requirements for individual subsidies

Please check whether your project meets the requirements for individual company subsidies (EBF) (Art. 5 Economic Promotion Act). There is no legal entitlement to subsidies. The Government Council can reject the application without giving reasons.

2. Application for grant funding

Detailed information is required for an accurate assessment of the project. Please submit the following documents:

  • Contact person of the company
  • Description of the innovative project (business plan)
  • Supplementary documents (e.g. technical assessment by recognized specialist bodies)

Submission of documents

Submit the required documents by e-mail to the Economic Promotion.

Review of documents

The Economic Promotion will examine the documents in consultation with the Department of Economic Affairs and will consult with your company regarding the terms and conditions of the performance agreement.

Requirements fulfilled

In consultation with the Department of Economic Affairs, the Economic Promotion prepares an application for grant funding to the Government Council.

Decision by the Government Council

Note: There is no legal entitlement to subsidies. The government council can reject the application without stating reasons.

3. Signing of the contract and start of funding

The performance agreement is concluded between the Canton of Schaffhausen and the company receiving funding for the duration of the funding period. It governs the rights and obligations of the contractual partners in acordance with Art. 7 Economic Promotion Legislation. For the canton these are the funding contributions and for the company, for example, the obligations made within the framework of the innovative project.

Signing of the performance agreement

The grant funding becomes legally binding with the signing of the agreement.

Granting of subsidies 

Granting of funding according to the milestones agreed in the performance agreement.

Reporting

Periodic reporting and review of the fulfilment of obligations during the term of the performance agreement.
