Veronika Sallenbach founded the StartHub in Schaffhausen, paving the way for even stronger interaction and idea exchange within the startup scene in the Schaffhausen area.
Veronika Sallenbach founded the StartHub association in Schaffhausen, laying the foundation for even more active exchange within the startup scene of the Schaffhausen region. The independent consultant lives with her husband Matthias and their two children in Stein am Rhein.
Veronika Sallenbach originally comes from Munich. However, her studies in "International Management" took her abroad. First to Paris, then to Austria, and finally, in 2008, to Zurich, where she completed her exam as a Swiss Certified Public Accountant – and met her husband Matthias at the Zurich Central Library.
Innovation, digitalization, and sustainability – this is the world of Vero Sallenbach. She has a visionary view of the future. In Zurich, she worked for many years as a consultant at Ernst & Young, later moving to UBS, where she helped build the Innovation Lab. A project that would turn out to be groundbreaking for her future. "Because this," she says today, "was the inspiration for founding the StartHub association a few years ago in Schaffhausen" – and thus, in her next place of residence.
She founded the StartHub association because, as she says, there was a lack of a place for exchange and inspiration. Schaffhausen and the surrounding region have a great start-up scene, but the whole start-up topic was not yet well-established and represented in the area. With the association, it has been possible to create a community and foster innovation. "We connect and support start-ups and SMEs in the region, organize networking events, and provide guidance on uncertainties about the start-up scene." As a doer, she feels supported: "On the one hand, through the RSE project application for regional and location development, with whose funding we were able to realize and establish the StartHub association, but also through the various contact points in the region."

In her own company, werdinnovativ.com, Vero Sallenbach works on several projects. These include sustainability projects for SMEs in the region, a project on inclusion in Winterthur, business consulting in the field of digitalization, and a children's book on sustainability. The balance between work and family is made possible by her ideal setup in her current place of residence in Stein am Rhein, where they were able to purchase a house directly on the Rhine a few years ago. "My husband had the opportunity to join a local company as a partner, and works just three minutes away on foot. As a freelance consultant, I can work whenever and wherever I want." In the summer, you can find her at the Uferlos restaurant or at the "Espi Badi" in Stein am Rhein, but most of the time, she's working from home.
Stein am Rhein means deceleration, tranquility, and a perfect world for Vero Sallenbach and her family, where their children can grow up in a beautiful environment. "When I look out the window in the morning and see the Rhine, I feel good," says Vero Sallenbach with a smile. In fact, they could not live without the Rhine: "We essentially live on and by the Rhine. Whether it's for swimming in the summer, on our canoe, or grilling by the shore in the autumn." Stein am Rhein has brought them happiness: "I can live here, I can work here, and we love the entire region, which offers so much for families. Whether it's the Lindli in Schaffhausen, the Stars in Town music festival, street food festivals, playgrounds for the children, the famous Liliput train in Stein am Rhein, and much more."
With a house direct on the banks of the River Rhine and a happy family, Vero has turned her visions for her private life into reality. And work-wise? On that front she is still keen to take on more projects linked to sustainability and digitalisation for businesses and start-ups in the area. And what of her visions for Schaffhausen? «For Schaffhausen my vision would be to have a university in the city. That would be cool, because it would bring even more young people to the area, and even more inspiration and positive energy.». So, it’s about thinking big and being brave? That’s always been Vero Sallenbachs recipe for success.
Balancing demanding work commitments with ensuring there’s enough time for the family. For consultant Vero Sallenbach, it has all worked out beautifully in her new home - Stein am Rhein. Her vision for the future in this area is developing the start-up scene and supporting businesses to address the challenges of sustainability, innovation and digitalisation.
