Originally founded in Singapore in 2003, Acronis has carved out a position as a global leader in data protection over the past 15 years and now employs over one thousand staff in eighteen countries. Top English football clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester City, as well as the Williams Racing and NIO Formula E motor sport teams have put their trust in Acronis to protect their highly sensitive data. Acronis has been headquartered in Schaffhausen since 2007 and is currently planning to grow its base there, with a particular focus on research and development. "We are going to increase our headcount significantly over the next twelve months.", says Acronis President John Zanni. The business has already extended and modernised its premises in in Schaffhausen to accommodate the growth in personnel.

The planned growth in staff numbers follows on from an announcement by Acronis founder and CEO Serguei Beloussov at the end of 2018: "We are planning to open a Technical Academy in Schaffhausen, focussing on research topics such as Artificial Intelligence, crypto-architectures, new materials, quantum technology, software engineering and digital health." According to Beloussov, the company chose to locate this new university-level Academy in Schaffhausen due to the proximity to Germany and the Greater Zurich Area as well as to the international airport in Zurich. In his view, Schaffhausen is "a great location with industrial heritage". The Academy is set to make Schaffhausen even more attractive to other businesses and will attract new talent to the area. The project is a resounding statement of belief in Schaffhausen as a business location, where the company’s planning extends into the long-term. As Beloussov is keen to emphasise: "We are here to stay!"

Writing he next chapters of Acronis’ success in Schaffhausen includes plans to recruit more staff locally as well as to attract the best international talent available, Zanni underlines. To achieve that goal, it’s important to be able to offer an attractive work-life balance and life-style. "Schaffhausen provides an excellent environment and that wins over our staff who have families and children. It’s a great place to work", he acknowledges. He also singles out the local Economic Promotion Team for praise. The Team helped Acronis during their move to the area more than ten years ago and has continued to support the company to make the right connections in the business service provider community locally as well as with the local administration ever since.
