Schaffhausen-based Acronis gains strong partner in EQT

August 9, 2024

EQT will become the majority shareholder of the Schaffhausen IT firm Acronis. Acronis gains a strong partner for the continued development of their successful cyber security and data protection platforms.

Software firm Acronis is a global leader in the development of cybersecurity solutions and has been headquartered in Schaffhausen since 2008. As a successful provider of an integrated platform for both cybersecurity and data management, the company has made a name for itself with its solutions for Managed-Services-Provider (MSPs) for small and medium sized businesses. With the planned partnership with Swedish private equity firm EQT, which will take on a majority share of the company, Acronis strengthens its position in a growing market, explains CEO Ezeqiel Steiner. As a new partner, EQT has committed to strengthening Acronis for further growth and market penetration, as well as to accelerating the expansion of the MSP network. The new partnership will not lead to changes at the headquarters in Schaffhausen, according to Steiner.

For Acronis, Schaffhausen is not only the location of its headquarters, but also of many other activities and projects. Among these are educational offerings like the “IT course for immigrants,” the support of start-ups, and the Construction Institute of Technology. The Constructor Institute, founded in Schaffhausen in 2019, offers two master’s programs and multiple research professorships in the fields of software and quantum technology, and supports an active PhD program. With this initiative, Schaffhausen can fill a hole in the local and national educational landscape.
